Introduction

B.1951,Tokyo. Began his career in TV and radio production before joining Tatsunoko Production in 1977. There, he worked as an animation director before gaining recognition for his innovative vision with the TV series Urusei Yatsura (1981–1986). He made his directorial debut with the theatrical adaptation of Urusei Yatsura and transitioned to live-action filmmaking with The Red Spectacles (1987). As an animation director, he contributed to the Mobile Police Patlabor series and continued creating numerous hits. His 1995 film, Ghost in the Shell, became the first Japanese film to top Billboard’s weekly video sales chart in the U.S. His 2004 film Innocence made history as the first animated feature to win the Japan SF Grand Prize. A celebrated figure both in Japan and internationally, he remains active as a filmmaker, animation director, novelist, screenwriter, manga creator, playwright, and game designer.

It is winter 2002. An errant missile crashes on Yokohama Bay Bridge. The media claims it’s a Japan Self Defense (SDF) aircraft, yet no such aircraft exists. This incident sparks a series of events that escalate tensions between the police and the SDF. Recognizing the severity of the situation, the government deploys a combat unit to restore order. The 2nd Platoon embarks on their final mission, to stop terrorists threatening to bring war to Tokyo.
