海辺の灯台の家で父と幼い妹シアーシャと暮らす少年ベン。母親はシアーシャが生まれてすぐに姿を消してしまったことから、彼は妹に優しくすることができない。やがて6歳の誕生日を迎えたシアーシャは、父が隠していたアザラシの妖精セルキーのコート見つけ、海へと引き寄せられる。心配した祖母は、2人を町へと連れて行く。ところがセルキーだと気づかれたシアーシャは、フクロウ魔女のマカにさらわれてしまう。ベンは妹を救うために冒険へと旅立つのだが…。
Ben is a young boy who lives with his father and young sister Saoirse in a lighthouse house by the sea. His mother disappeared soon after giving birth to Saoirse, so he was unable to be kind to her. Eventually, on her sixth birthday, Saoirse finds her father’s hidden coat of Selkie, the seal fairy, and is drawn to the sea. Her grandmother, worried, moved them both to her own house in town. One day, Saoirse is recognised as a Selkie and is kidnapped by Macha, the Owl Witch. Ben sets off on an adventure to save his sister…

1977年1月7日、北アイルランド・ニューリー生まれ。ダブリンのバリーファーモット・カレッジでアニメーション制作を学び、1999年にポール・ヤング、ノラ・トゥーミーと共にアニメーション・スタジオ、カートゥーン・サルーンを設立。『ブレンダンとケルズの秘密』（09）で長編デビュー、続く『ソング・オブ・ザ・シー海のうた』（14）『ウルフウォーカー』（20）と長編３作全てがアカデミー賞にノミネートされた。

Born 7 January 1977, Newry, Northern Ireland. Studied animation production at Ballyfermot College, Dublin, and founded the animation studio Cartoon Saloon with Paul Young and Nora Toomey in 1999. He made his feature debut with “The Secret of Brendan and Kells (2009)”, followed by “Song of the Sea (2002)” and “Wolfwalkers (2020)”, all three of which were nominated for Academy Awards.
